MoistureShield is one of the composite lines we build with across Northeast Florida, and it is the one we reach for when a deck is going somewhere wet — low to grade, near the marsh, around a pool, or over ground that never really dries out. Here is what the brand does differently and where it is genuinely the right call.
Most capped composite boards are built to keep water out of the core through the cap. MoistureShield's boards use a solid core designed to resist moisture through the whole board rather than only at the surface, which is why the manufacturer approves them for installation on the ground, in the ground, and even underwater. No other mainstream composite we install carries that approval.
The second is heat. MoistureShield's CoolDeck technology, used in its Vision and Meridian lines, is rated to reduce heat absorption by up to 35% compared with conventional capped composite in the same colour. In a Jacksonville July that is the difference between a deck you can cross barefoot and one you cannot.
Worth being straight about: cooler than conventional composite is not the same as cool. Any dark board in full Florida sun gets hot. If barefoot comfort is the top priority, we will talk to you about lighter colours, about PVC, or about keeping the surface shaded — not just about which composite brand to buy.

MoistureShield backs its decking with a transferable 50-year limited residential structural warranty, and a 50-year fade and stain warranty on the capped lines. The manufacturer states it has had zero structural field failures in more than 30 years of production. The boards are made in the USA from roughly 95% recycled material, and the capped lines carry the DiamondDefense coating for stain and scratch resistance.
Read the exclusions before you rely on any decking warranty, ours included. A structural warranty covers the board, not the frame beneath it and not the labour to pull a deck apart. That is why we flash the ledger properly and detail the drainage from the start — the framing is where Florida decks actually fail.

Yes. The solid-core construction is what makes it possible, and the manufacturer approves installation on the ground, in the ground and underwater. That is unusual — most composite decking warranties are void the moment a board sits in standing water or direct soil contact. It is the main reason we specify it on low-clearance and waterfront builds.
MoistureShield rates CoolDeck at up to 35% less heat absorption than conventional capped composite of the same colour. The qualifier matters: it is measured against the same colour, so a dark CoolDeck board will still be hotter than a light conventional one. Colour first, technology second.
Any deck does once algae or pollen builds a film on it, and shaded, humid spots grow that film fastest. The boards themselves are textured and grip well when clean. Two washes a year, one after spring pollen and one after autumn leaf drop, prevents nearly every slip complaint we are called about.
The capped lines are built to resist fading and carry a 50-year fade and stain warranty. Expect a small settling of tone in the first year, then stability. It will not grey out the way untreated wood does.
We build the whole structure — footings, framing, ledger, flashing, railings and the deck surface. Boards are the part you see; the frame is the part that decides how long the deck lasts. We do not install a surface over someone else's framing without inspecting and signing off on it first.
