Concrete pavers suit this climate for reasons that have little to do with looks. A paver field is made of individual units over a compacted base, so it flexes with ground movement instead of cracking the way a poured slab does over our sandy, shifting soils. Water drains through the joints rather than sheeting toward the house. And when something does go wrong — a settled corner, a stained unit, a utility repair — you lift the affected pavers and reset them, rather than saw-cutting and patching a slab you can never match again.

The honest part: paver brand matters far less than base preparation. We have been called to fix more failed Belgard, Tremron and generic paver jobs caused by a thin or poorly compacted base than by anything wrong with the paver itself. Ask any installer how deep they excavate and how they compact before you ask which brand they carry.

The unit cost difference between name-brand and generic pavers is usually a small share of the total job, because most of the cost is excavation, base material and labour. Where the money shows is in colour consistency across pallets, the availability of matching wall and coping units, and being able to get the same paver years later for a repair or an extension. On a driveway you plan to keep, that matters.
Colour drives surface temperature far more than brand does. Light, sand and ivory tones run noticeably cooler underfoot than charcoal or deep reds in full Florida sun. If bare feet are the priority we will steer you to the lighter end of the range, or to travertine, which sheds heat better than any concrete paver.
Some mellowing is normal on any concrete paver under this much UV, and it typically settles within the first year or two rather than continuing indefinitely. Sealing slows it and deepens the colour, at the cost of a reseal every few years. Plenty of our customers skip sealing entirely and are happy with the weathered look.
Often, yes, if the line is still produced. Bring us a spare unit or a clear photo with something for scale. Where an exact match is no longer made, the usual answer is a deliberate border or banding in a complementary unit, which reads as design rather than as a repair.
